
The Sokoto State Government (SOSG), through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MiDE), participated in the MTN ICT and Business Skills Training Initiative (Phase 7) closing and grants presentation event organised by the MTN Nigeria Foundation .
The event, which was held in Abuja Continental Hotel, celebrated the graduation of 5,980 participants between the ages of 18 and 35 who successfully completed the programme designed to strengthen digital and entrepreneurial skills among young Nigerians.
Representing the Commissioner of Innovation and Digital Economy, Sokoto State at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Nasir Daniya, mni, joined other stakeholders from the 8 selected States including the FCT in acknowledging the achievements of the participants and the impact of the programme in promoting youth empowerment and digital inclusion.
Interestingly, 633 microbusiness owners from Sokoto State were among those who successfully completed the intensive five-week training programme aimed at digitising and strengthening their businesses, out of which top 40 were given grants of up to N500 thousand Naira respectively to support their businesses.
Furthermore, the ceremony also featured the unveiling of the top 600 microbusiness owners selected to receive equipment grants valued at up to N300 million, alongside an interactive session where experienced entrepreneurs shared practical insights and success stories with participants. The Honourable Minister of State for Finance-Designate, Prof. Tauwo Oyedele led the paper presentations where he outlined President Tinubu’s improved plans for startups and fintechs in Nigeria.
The initiative aligns with the State Government’s efforts to promote youth empowerment and digital development by equipping young people with practical skills to enhance employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. The government pledges to provide further support amd enhance all lthe beneficiaries’ capabilities to enable them contribute meaningfully to the society.
SOSG reaffirmed its commitment under the administration of Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, Sokoto, to supporting programmes that advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development.
