69,979 PWDs paid N.700bn by Governor Aliyu in 1 Year.
In a concerted effort to address the needs of marginalized groups, the Sokoto State Government (SOSG) has intensified its focus on welfare programs aimed at supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), youths, and other vulnerable groups. This commitment was reaffirmed during a recent ministerial briefing for MDAs in the state to commomerate the one year anniversary of Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto PhD, FCNA
Commissioner, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Welfare, Honourable Ya’u Muhammad Dan’da highlighted the government’s initiatives aimed at addressing challenges faced by PWDs, youths, and vulnerable individuals across the state.
In addition to providing monthly stipends and skills acquisition training for PWDs and youths, the government has embarked on initiatives such as the subsidized procurement of tricycles (Napep) and motorcycles, aimed at empowering beneficiaries with sustainable means of livelihood. Notably, monthly stipends have been reintroduced for 6,979 individuals, with an increase from ₦6,500 to ₦10,000.
Collaborative efforts with donor agencies by the Ministry also aim to provide essential support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the State.
The briefing was jointly organized by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, and the Ministry of Information and Orientation to assess the performance of MDAs in the state.
