The Sokoto State Government (SOSG) has distributed cash and food items to victims of bandit attacks and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Isa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas. Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this during a condolence visit to the affected communities.
In Isa Local Government Area, the governor presented N2 million and five bags of rice each to 65 families of those killed, and N250,000 with three bags of rice each to five persons injured during the attacks. He also gave N20 million and 1,200 bags of assorted food items to IDPs, bringing the total support in Isa to N151.25 million and 1,240 bags of food items.
In Sabon Birni, Governor Aliyu extended similar assistance, donating N2 million and five bags of rice each to 61 families of those killed. He also released N20 million and 1,200 bags of assorted food items to IDPs, bringing the total support in the area to N122 million and 1,300 bags of food items.
The governor further announced that the Executive will soon forward a bill to the State House of Assembly prescribing stiff penalties for informants aiding bandits. He stressed that the “informants’ syndrome” fuels kidnappings and insecurity, warning those involved to desist before the law catches up with them.
“I want to state here that informants will no longer have a place in our dear state. I therefore call on well-meaning citizens, especially in rural areas, to assist us with relevant information on any suspicious movements or strange faces in your communities,” he said.
Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies. Since assuming office, the government has provided over 180 patrol vehicles, facilitated the operationalization of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto, restored and increased monthly allowances for personnel in volatile areas, and backed the construction of a military base in Illela Local Government Area.
He urged citizens to rally round the government by intensifying prayers for Allah’s intervention in the fight against insecurity.
In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Isa and Sabon Birni LGAs, Hon. Sharifu Abubakar Kamarawa and Hon. Ayuba Hashimu, commended the governor’s concern for the affected communities and prayed for Allah’s continued guidance for his administration.
The information was contained in a press release issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa.
