The Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), in collaboration with Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, and Professionalism LEAP Africa conducted a 5-day Digital Skills Training programme to Students in the State from 2nd – 6th September 2024. The graduation ceremony took place at the Caliphate Tech Hub in Sokoto.
The digital sklls training is part of LEAP Africa’s iLEAD Programme, aimed to equip 100 selected students with essential digital skills. They were drawn from 10 public secondary schools across 5 Local Government Areas (LGAs): Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, Bodinga, and Dange-Shuni. They received instruction on productivity tools such as MS Office and Google Docs, digital content creation using Canva and CapCut, and social media marketing , with a focus on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
Acting Director General of the Sokoto ICT Directorate, Murtala Yusuf, represented the MIDE Commissioner, Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo commended the students for their dedication and encouraged them to apply the skills learnt in practical settings effectively. He emphasized the importance of the iLEAD Programme in preparing the youth for the digital economy.
This initiative aligns with Sokoto State’s digital transformation strategy under Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto-led administration. The MIDE remains dedicated to fostering innovation and advancing digital literacy across the 23 local government areas of the State.
E-certificates were awarded to the graduates. MIDE management staff, unit heads from the ICT Directorate, and stakeholders from SIHUB also attended the event, marking the successful completion of the training.
