In a bid to strengthen Sokoto State’s digital infrastructure, the Sokoto State Government (SOSG), through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), led by Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo, recently visited Galaxy Backbone’s North West regional office in Kano. The visit marked a crucial step in exploring a partnership to advance the state’s digital transformation agenda, with a particular focus on establishing a state owned data center in Sokoto.
During the visit, the team toured Galaxy Backbone’s state of the art Tier 4 data center and held extensive interactive sessions with the company’s Managing Director and Regional Coordinator for Kano, Yusuf Kilawa. The discussions focused on leveraging Galaxy Backbone’s expertise and infrastructure to enhance Sokoto’s ICT capabilities, particularly in cloud services, broadband connectivity, and data management.
Galaxy Backbone’s Kano office is reportedly the only public agency in Nigeria hosting a Tier 4 data center, the highest standard of data center infrastructure worldwide. Unlike Tier 3 centers in other regions, this facility offers the highest level of security, reliability, and performance, making it ideal for hosting sensitive data and delivering essential digital services.
The visit reaffirmed Sokoto State’s commitment to establishing a robust data center that will serve as a hub for government and business data storage, support e-governance initiatives, and enhance digital service delivery. This initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of becoming a regional leader in digital innovation.
Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, has demonstrated unwavering support for the Ministry’s efforts in driving the state’s digital transformation. This partnership is expected to play a crucial role in realizing the state’s digital ambitions and positioning Sokoto as a hub for innovation in the region.
