Sokoto State Government Distributes Palliatives Worth 5bn.

Amidst prevailing economic challenges, the Sokoto State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, shared significant milestones achieved during the one-year administration of Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto PhD FCNA.

The development was ascerted during ministerial briefing for MDA’s in the State. In his remarks, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Honourable Bello Muhammad Wamakko, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sani Muhammad Tambuwal announced that the state government distributed 5 billion Naira worth of grains across the State. Such include 57,000 bags of rice, 26,000 bags of millet, and 44,000 bags of maize, serving as palliative measures to alleviate economic hardships since the inception of this administration into office.

The Ministry outlined other plans to procure agrochemicals, pest control materials, and spray equipment for the upcoming wet season farming, alongside the acquisition of vegetable seeds for dry season cultivation. Additionally, significant investments have been directed towards irrigation infrastructure, with 270 million Naira disbursed for the Kware Irrigation scheme. Considering climate change, subsidized fertilizer and improved seeds will soon be available to farmers, ensuring continued productivity amidst forecasted weather challenges.

In his closing remarks, Wamakko assured of the State government’s procurement of farm implements, including tractors and other machinery, to boost farming activities in the state.

The briefing, jointly organized by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Information and Orientation, aimed to assess the performance of the MDA’s in the State.
