Sokoto State Gov’t to Partner FG on Commercialisation of Scientific Research

The Sokoto State Government (SOSG), through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MiDE), participated in a strategic meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST) on the commercialisation of scientific research outcomes.

The meeting, which was held in Abuja, under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, brought together representatives of state governments, research institutions, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for identifying and promoting viable scientific research outputs for commercialisation and industrial development.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Nasir Daniya, mni, represented Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, Sokoto State at the engagement, where discussions focused on translating research findings and innovations into practical industrial solutions capable of attracting both domestic and international investment.

As part of the program, participants took part in a zonal technical group session, where they were divided into groups representing the six geopolitical zones of the country to review and discuss market-ready research and development outcomes.

During the technical discussions, stakeholders examined pathways for validating, packaging, and presenting promising research outputs to potential investors while emphasising the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, research bodies, and the private sector.

The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which identifies technology and innovation-led industrialisation as a key pathway for economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable national development. The Minister, his Permanent Secretary, DG National Biotechnology Research and Development, other DGs under the Ministry, Commissioners were at the event throughout the thought provoking but equally dynamic engagement. The Minister pledges to lead his high level team to Sokoto to further strengthen the collaboration.

Sokoto State, under the administration of Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, Sokoto FCNA, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the development and application of science, technology, and innovation in driving sustainable development and economic transformation.
