SOSG – FG To Collaborates With Development Partners On SHIP program

In a pivotal and ongoing collaboration, the Sokoto State Government (SOSG), through the Ministry of Health, has partnered with the Federal Government and development partners, spearheaded by the African Development Bank (AFDB), to advance the transformative Sokoto State Health Infrastructure Project (SHIP).

The project’s objectives encompass the establishment of the College of Health Sciences, the equipping of the University Teaching Hospital at Sokoto State University, and the establishment of premier hospitals in each senatorial zone to address the evolving healthcare needs of the region.

During a strategic meeting at Sokoto Specialist Hospital from November 28 to November 29, 2023, Honorable Commissioner Bashar Umar Kwabo of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy led a delegation alongside the Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr. Nasir Daniya PhD, and officials from the ICT Directorate Sokoto, to discuss areas of collaboration, particularly focusing on advanced technological integration, complementing the state government efforts under the administration of Executive Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA.

In a comprehensive presentation, the PS elucidated on how the Ministry, as the sole entity mandated, will play a pivotal role in providing guidance and technological support. The primary focus lies in integrating advanced technologies to optimize the healthcare sector’s operational efficiency within the proposed projects. The Permanent Secretary reassured partners of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment and readiness, emphasizing its substantial capacity to seamlessly integrate technological solutions.

The Commissioner highlighted crucial areas requiring support from the Federal Government and development partners during the presentation. He emphasized the specific importance of ICT Hubs across the state, stating that these hubs are vital for providing training, mentoring opportunities, and manpower development in the ICT sector. These efforts align individuals with available opportunities related to their respective endeavors.

The collaborative efforts and support sought from the Federal Government and development partners highlight the shared commitment to the success of the Sokoto State Health Infrastructure Project program. This aligns seamlessly with the SOSG’s unwavering dedication to reshaping healthcare, education, and technology sectors in Sokoto state through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.

The meeting was attended by officials of the Ministry of Health, led by the Honorable Commissioner, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance, and other development partners for the SHIP program.
