The Sokoto State Government has launched an extensive digital skills training program for 1,000 youths, marking a significant step toward digital inclusion in the state. Unveiled today by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), the program aims to equip participants with essential skills for modern business, workforce demands, and personal self-sustainability.
The training will cover areas such as computer literacy, graphic design, video editing, social media marketing, and AI for productivity. The initiative attracted substantial interest, with over 4,500 applicants competing for the 1,000 available spots. Although this is a pilot project, the Ministry plans to train 10,000 individuals across Sokoto State in the near future.
Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo, Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, emphasized that the program aligns with the governor’s directive to enhance digital literacy throughout the state. He stated, “This training program is just the beginning. We are committed to expanding our efforts with additional digital skills initiatives focused on youth empowerment and self-sustainability.”
During the inauguration, Dr. Nasir Daniya, PhD FNCS, the Permanent Secretary, interacted with the participants. He encouraged them to leverage the training to enhance their business prospects and benefit from the initiative. He assured them that there would be opportunities for further support and development to maximize their potential.
The government views this program as a crucial step in preparing Sokoto’s youth for a dynamic job market and fostering economic growth through digital innovation. Officials will evaluate its impact and use the insights gained to refine and expand future digital literacy efforts across the state.
The program was organized by the MIDE, in collaboration with the Sokoto arm of the 3MTT, a renowned National initiative under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Caliphate Tech Community and Dan Anini Digital Solutions.
Participants were drawn across the 23 Local Governments in Sokoto State. Management staff of the MIDE, the Acting Director General of the Sokoto ICT Directorate (ICTD), Mr Murtala Yusuf and the heads of units of the ICTD and other stakeholders grace the event.
