Sultan Urges Governors to Treat All Nigerians as Indigenes

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on state governors across the country to emulate Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, by eliminating the distinction between indigenes and non-indigenes to foster national unity.

He made the call during his Sallah homage to Governor Aliyu at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.

The Sultan emphasized that Sokoto State treats all Nigerians as indigenes, creating a sense of belonging among residents.

“In Sokoto, we don’t have non-indigenes; rather, we recognize them as members of the resident communities,” he stated.

He urged other states to adopt this model to promote peace, harmony, and national cohesion.

The monarch also called on governors to prioritize security, describing it as the foundation of societal progress.

“In Sokoto, we appreciate what the Governor is doing, and we assure him of the unwavering support of the traditional institution so that he can continue transforming our state.

“The Governor and our security agencies are doing their best, and this has led to significant progress in the fight against banditry,” he affirmed.

He further commended Governor Aliyu for the large-scale distribution of food items during Ramadan, describing it as an unprecedented initiative in Sokoto State.

The Sultan also warned against the misuse of social media, cautioning that the spread of misinformation and provocative content could destabilize the country. He urged security agencies to closely monitor such activities to prevent unrest.

In response, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto reassured the Sultan of his administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure Sokoto State.

He attributed rising insecurity to youth unemployment, noting that some young people serve as informants to criminals for financial gain.

“This administration has trained and graduated thousands of youths and women in various trades to make them productive members of society.

“We will soon launch another large-scale skills acquisition program to further engage unemployed youths and curb restiveness,” he vowed.

Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting Islamic affairs, adding that mosques and Islamiyya schools would continue to receive priority attention.

He thanked the people of Sokoto for their continued prayers and support and urged them to sustain their goodwill.
