Tambuwal grants amnesty to 8,000 ghost workers in Sokoto

A total of 8,000 ghost workers and those collecting abnormal salaries in Sokoto state have been granted amnesty.

– The state’s commissioner for finance, Abdussamad Dasuki, says this move is to make the ghost workers come up without being forced.

– The commissioner warns that at the expiration of the amnesty period those who refuse to speak up or continue shortchanging the state would be prosecuted At least 8,000 ghost workers discovered in Sokoto have been granted amnesty by the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Those who got amnesty also included workers that collected abnormal salaries under the state’s payroll. The position of the government was announced by Abdussamad Dasuki, the state’s finance commissioner. According to Dasuki, the government took the decision to allow the affected ghost workers to come up to confess under ‘confidentiality and guaranteed state pardon’.

Dasuki, who doubles as head of the committee on integrated payroll and internally generated revenue (IGR), said on Thursday, November 28. He explained that the amnesty programme commenced from November 27, and will end on December 9, 2019.

Government is, therefore, calling on those concerned to avail themselves of this initiative. At the end of this period, appropriate sanctions will be meted out to those found wanting in accordance with civil service rules and relevant laws,” the commissioner said. He also urged civil servants and residents with information that can help resolve the payroll system to approach the committee. “However, this is with the assurance of confidentiality and reward where appropriate.
