
The Sokoto State Government, through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), participated in the third edition of the Sokoto Facebook Connect, which was held at the Command Guest House, Sokoto on Saturday 9 November 2025. The event brought together digital creators, entrepreneurs, innovators, and tech enthusiasts in a celebration of creativity and responsible digital engagement.
The event, themed ‘Harnessing Social Media for Social Good’, provided a unique platform for discussions on responsible online engagements and digital inclusion across the cyberspace.
In his welcome address and goodwill message, the Honourable Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Bashar Umar Kwabo, extended the well wishes of His Excellency, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto PhD, FCNA,FNCS, while emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fostering a digitally empowered youth population. He commended the organizers for creating a space for young innovators and entrepreneurs to share ideas and noted that the event aligns with the government’s vision for youth empowerment.
Hon Kwabo highlighted the newly established Sokoto Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (SICTDA) as a key initiative to drive digital transformation, promote innovation, and support startups across the state.
He stated, “With SICTDA now operational, more digital literacy, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives will be rolled out to empower our youth, enhance ICT education, and expand opportunities for creativity and entrepreneurship.”
He also encouraged young people, especially Women, to broaden their understanding of innovation beyond technology, emphasizing creativity, problem-solving, and adopting a mindset of progress in all fields.
He added, “Innovation is not just about technology. It is about doing things differently and finding smarter ways to solve problems and improve livelihood” across Nigeria.
The gathering featured poetry performances, panel discussion on digital innovation, entertainments, including drama, cultural displays, awards presentations, and networking sessions. It provides a platform for stakeholders in Sokoto’s digital ecosystem to connect and collaborate.
In appreciation of participants, the Commissioner presented a donation of N1.4 Million Naira at the event. The program was attended by the Director, Digital Economy, Literacy, Capacity Building & Innovation (MIDE), Prof. Abdulaziz Shehu; Director ICT (MIDE), Murtala Nuhu; and the Head of Digital Media and Communications (SICTDA). Also present were the Coordinator of Sokoto AGILE Project, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, other important dignitaries, as well as other key players in the digital ecosystem in Sokoto State and beyond.
