The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, has pledged to take action on issues surrounding unremitted loan deductions from workers salaries.
The Governor gave this assurance in response to an appeal by the Sokoto State Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, during a recent engagement. The NLC Chairperson highlighted the plight of workers whose loan repayments were deducted from their salaries but not remitted to the respective banks, allegedly due to negligence by officials of the previous administration.
“Your Excellency, please come to the aid of these people. They have been at a crossroads for years,” Comrade Abdullahi pleaded. “We know you to be firm in defending people’s rights. Please apply your popular slogan, ‘in kudi kudi, in aiki aiki’ to recover the diverted funds.”
Governor Aliyu responded by assuring both the labour union and affected workers that his administration would launch a thorough investigation into the matter and take all necessary steps to ensure justice is served.
“This administration prioritizes human rights and will not condone any violations under any guise,” the Governor stated. “We are committed to protecting the rights of the weak, the less privileged, and the downtrodden in our state.”
He further called on citizens of Sokoto State to continue supporting his administration’s policies and reforms. Governor Aliyu also expressed appreciation for the public’s sustained prayers and goodwill, urging them to maintain their support as his government works to deliver lasting change and the dividends of democracy.
The statement was contained in a press release issued by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa.
