
In a move aimed at transforming the prospects of Sokoto youths and its economic development, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD FCNA, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, launched the highly anticipated 10,000 Digital and Technical Skills Training Program in the State.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), the initiative is designed to equip Sokoto youths with cutting-edge skills to drive economic growth, foster innovationand elevate the state’s position in the digital age.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo, Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, highlighted the program’s critical role in empowering Sokoto youths. He noted that “nearly 6,000 applications had already been received within 72 hours after the launch of the registration portal, which was a clear indication of the program’s tremendous appeal.”
In his address, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to digital inclusion and economic empowerment, stating that “this ambitious training program represents a pivotal moment in Sokoto State’s journey towards digital transformation.” The occasion was further marked by a ceremonial cake cutting, symbolizing the official launch of the program.
The event featured insightful and interactive presentations from Dr Nasir Daniya, the Permanent Secretary of MIDE, who discussed “Virtual Education in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges,” and Dr Shadi Sabeh, Vice Chancellor of IConic Open University, who focused on “Entrepreneurship as a Gold Mine.” As Commissioner Kwabo highlighted, the program goes beyond just training by incorporating mentorship and progress tracking, with “women fully participating.”
This groundbreaking initiative positions Sokoto as a leader in youth empowerment and the digital economy. With 10,000 future leaders set to gain vital skills, the program will undoubtedly help propel the state toward a brighter, more prosperous future. The training is delivered via physical and virtual forms.
The event also saw the participation of Commissioners, Special Advisers, university leaders, and the first and second batches of training participants who benefited from this transformative opportunity.
