Sokoto Government Signs MOU to Reduce Food Prices During Ramadan

Dr Ahamd Aliyu Sokoto, Executive Governor, Sokoto State.

The Sokoto State Government (SOSG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Union of Commodity Dealers to lower food and essential commodity prices across the state during Ramadan.

The State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto PhD, FCNA, FNCS, announced that the government will provide financial support to offset costs, ensuring affordability and reinforcing its commitment to citizens’ welfare.

“Through this partnership, we are providing financial support to offset costs and ensure affordability, reinforcing our commitment to the welfare of our citizens. This initiative reflects our dedication to empowering communities and promoting economic stability.” he added.

In addition to this agreement, the state government has expanded its Ramadan feeding program by increasing the number of feeding centers from 130 in previous years to 155. This expansion aims to decongest existing locations and ensure easier access to meals for fasting individuals.

Furthermore, the government has allocated ₦1.355 billion to support these feeding centers, ensuring that food reaches the less privileged and vulnerable during the holy month.

Governor Aliyu also called on affluent individuals to complement government efforts by establishing additional feeding centers following the sighting of the moon.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto for their continued support and urged them to offer prayers for the success of the administration.

The information was shared on the governor’s official social media pages on Facebook and X.
