
The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, has called for collective efforts to tackle banditry in the state, urging all segments of society to contribute to achieving lasting peace and security.
The governor made this appeal during a Sallah homage to His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, at his palace, emphasizing the importance of unity and community engagement in addressing insecurity.
Governor Aliyu highlighted his administration’s progress in combating crime, attributing successes to the prayers of the people, the dedication of security agencies, and the establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, which supports conventional security forces.
He commended traditional institutions for their role in maintaining peace and called for sustained collaboration to address security challenges. The governor also reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for Islamic propagation and praised wealthy individuals for organizing Ramadan feeding programs to assist the less privileged.
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu lauded Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III for his contributions to Da’awah (Islamic propagation) and sought his continued support and guidance in governance.
In response, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III commended the governor’s various intervention programs, particularly those aimed at supporting orphans, the needy, the physically challenged, and Islamic scholars. He also acknowledged the government’s infrastructural development efforts and encouraged Governor Aliyu to sustain them for the benefit of the people.
The Sultan urged citizens to continue offering prayers for their leaders, emphasizing that divine guidance and collective support are essential for effective governance and development.
The Sallah homage was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including APC leader Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Sokoto State Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir, Minister of State for Works Barrister Bello Goronyo, and former Deputy Governor Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo. Also present were Sokoto State Chief Judge Muhammad Sa’idu Sifawa, Sokoto Grand Kadi Sodangi Achida, House Leader Bello Idris, State APC Chairman Isa Saddiq Achida, and Deputy Speaker Kabir Ibrahim Kware.
