The Sokoto State Government (SOSG), through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE), has collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), Microsoft, and Lagos Business School to participate in a three-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) Leadership Workshop. The training, held at the Policy Innovation Centre in Abuja, was designed to equip senior public sector leaders with strategic insights on leveraging AI to enhance governance and service delivery.
Representing Sokoto State at the workshop were Murtala Nuhu, Director of ICT, and Faruk Attahiru Jabo, Head of External Projects and Interventions at the ICT Directorate. Their participation demonstrates the state’s strong commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies into its governance framework.
This initiative directly supports Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s recent approval of the establishment of the Sokoto State Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies. The council, the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa, is mandated to advise the government on adopting AI and innovative solutions across key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, and governance.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo, affirmed that Sokoto State remains firmly aligned with national and global efforts to harness emerging technologies for enhanced governance. He also commended Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for the unwavering support he continues to give to the ministry, describing it as a key enabler of the progress being recorded in the state’s digital transformation agenda.
Through these proactive efforts, Sokoto State is positioning itself at the forefront of digital transformation, harnessing technology for improved public service delivery and enhanced citizen experience.
