Governor Aliyu Renames Ministry of Digital Economy, Appoints Vibrant Commissioner
The Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has renamed the former Ministry of Technology and Digital Economy to Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE).
In other development, the Governor equally appoints one of the vibrant Youths in the State as a Commissioner to the newly established Ministry. Bashir Umarun Kwabo, was the immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor of Sokoto State on Inter-Governmental Relations (IGR).
Hon Bashir is expected to drive initiatives, policies and programs of the Ministry, which additionally oversees the Sokoto ICT Directorate.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Nasir Daniya appreciates Governor Aliyu’s vision for appointing the right kind of personality that the Ministry needs for smooth actualisation of its statutory mandates.
The Ministry was established to compliment the Federal Government’s quest for ‘Digital Nigeria’ through the National Digital Economic Policy and Strategy (2020-2030).
Sokoto State is one of the front-runners in adopting ICT-related policies and other regulatory frameworks, which are aimed at reshaping the scope of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Digital Evolutions, Web 7.0, Blockchain Technologies and Advanced Artificial Intelligence etc.
