The Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy (MIDE) paid a courtesy visit to the Hikima Community and Development Initiative (COMDI). The delegation was led by the Honourable Commissioner, Bashar Umar Kwabo, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nasir Daniya, PhD, FNCS.
The team was received by the CEO and founder of COMDI, Mrs, Hajia Ubaida Muhammad Bello (Sarauniyar Shariffan Sokoto). The organization poised to improve the living conditions of community members through participatory engagement, advocacy, and community mobilization.
Mrs Bello highlighted that COMDI, as a non-governmental organization with over 200 staff members that embark on skills acquisition training program for over 400 individuals in the State. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with the Ministry to train people on innovative skills for sustainability and self reliance. Additionally, she noted that COMDI serves as an implementation unit that partners with other non-governmental organizations to provide support to the populace, including assistance to individuals living with HIV, demonstrating the organization’s broad commitment to community welfare.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner commended COMDI for its impactful work in the community and assured them of the Ministry’s support where needed. He emphasized that one of the Ministry’s key mandates is to provide digital support across government, public, and private sectors. He also expressed optimism about future collaborations with COMDI to enhance digital literacy and skills among the Sokoto populace.
In her response, the CEO expressed the gratitude of the agency for the visit, describing the Honourable Commissioner as the organization’s “best visitor of the year.”
The delegation also included the Acting Director General of the ICT Directorate, Murtala Yusuf, as well as Directors and Heads of Units from both MIDE and the ICT Directorate.
