
The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, launched the Adolescent Girl’s Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project at the State Government House. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, describing it as the foundation for sustainable development.
The AGILE project aims to create safe, accessible learning environments for adolescent girls while promoting life skills, digital literacy, and financial empowerment. It also seeks to improve school infrastructures to enhance educational opportunities.
During the event, the governor oversaw the disbursement of School Improvement Grants to 240 secondary schools across the state. The grants will fund classroom renovations, construction of toilets and boreholes, and the provision of desks. Schools with 002 to 200 students will receive ₦23,000,000, while schools with 201 to 500 students will receive ₦46,000,000 each. The funds were immediately transferred to the school’s accounts.
Furthermore, in response to the state’s growing educational needs, additional grants will be disbursed by the end of the first quarter of 2025. Schools with 501 to 1,000 students will receive ₦92,000,000, and schools with over 1,000 students will receive larger grants.
In line with Governor Aliyu’s 9-point agenda, these interventions aim to transform the educational sector, providing better opportunities for students, particularly girls, and contributing to the state’s long term development.
In his closing remarks, the Coordinator of the AGILE Program, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, thanked Governor Ahmad Aliyu and the Sokoto State Government for their unwavering support. He commended their dedication to advancing education and empowering adolescent girls, highlighting the long lasting positive impact these efforts will have on the state’s development.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the Honorable Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, former Deputy Governor, Alh. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo, and the Sultan’s representative, Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto. Representatives from the education sector and school administrators were also present, all commending the AGILE project’s potential impact.
