
The Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Science and Technology, held a public hearing on the bill to establish the Sokoto Information and Communications Technology Development Agency (SICTDA).
The bill proposes the creation of SICTDA to provide a legal framework for digital transformation, foster innovation, improve ICT infrastructure, and generate employment opportunities across Sokoto State.
During the hearing, the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy emphasized the importance of institutionalizing digital governance and driving ICT development in the state. It highlighted SICTDA’s role in supporting skills development, advancing e-governance, and enhancing public service delivery.
The Committee Chairman, Honourable Awaisu Aliyu, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s contributions and assured that all stakeholders’ inputs would be thoroughly reviewed to ensure the bill aligns with the state’s digital objectives.
The session was attended by key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Works, MTN Nigeria, the Nigeria Computer Society, and the Association of Computing Students, among others, who provided valuable submissions.
It could be recalled that the Bill was presented by the Executive Governor of Sokoto state, Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for consideration by the State Assembly. It has gotten to second reading in March, 2025, If passed into law, it could be a change maker in adoption and development of ICT in the State.
