NCCIDE KANO 2024: Sokoto Poised to host NCAIR: Advocates for Paperless Society in Nigeria.

The Sokoto State Government (SOSG) presented a memoranda to the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) for creation of Regional Centere for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (RCAIR), to be domiciled in Sokoto State. The plea was made in Kano, the host State for the recently concluded NCCIDE 2024.

The memo was presented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Innovationand Digital Economy (MIDE), Honourable Bashar Umar Kwabo A.A. He reiterated Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s commitment in providing all that is required of the State to facilitate interventions from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and all other development partners across the globe.

In his remarks, the Council Chairman, who is also the Minister of CIDE, Dr Bosun Tijani, assured the SOSG of his Ministry’s cooperation in that regard. He promised that the Ministry through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and other sister agencies will look into the SOSG’s prayers, which had earlier been recommended and approved by the Council.

“We are talking with Sokoto State”, the Minister said. We would provide the needed support to help all States to achieve their objectives, as well as the Digital-Economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Dr Bosun hailed Sokoto State’s efforts in promoting the Digital Ecosystem’s development in the State.

The SOSG subsequently presented another memo for the establishment of Advisory Council on Paperless Society in Nigeria, which was enumerated by the Permanent Secretary of MIDE, Dr Nasir Daniya. At the closing stages of the meeting, the SOSG was the first state to demonstrate interest to host the NCCIDE in Sokoto in 2025.

The council earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Emier of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and subsequently to the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, whom immediately joined the council members at the Coronation Hall to declare the event open.

Hon Kwabo appreciates Dr Ahmad Aliyu for sending a strong delegation that actively participate in all the council’s activities. It could be recalled that Sokoto State became the first state to establish the MIDE in Nigeria in 2023. Soon afterwards, it embarked on fact-finding and study tour of Lagos state and other strategic organizations amongst the private sector.

Honourable Bashar equally led the Ministry to visit the Minister of CIDE, Director General of NITDA, President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and other strategic institutions that enabled the SOSG designed a comprehensive blueprint for the Ministry.

The NCCIDE sits annually at a chosen State to deliberate on matters aimed at developing the Country. It consists of Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries from 36 States and other stakeholders from both the public and private sector. The Minister of CIDE chairs the Council.
