Commissioner For Innovation And Digital Economy Receives “Transparency And Youth Inclusiveness” Award

In a notable ceremony, Hon. Bashar Umar Kwabo, the Commissioner of Innovation and Digital Economy in Sokoto State, was honored with the prestigious “Transparency and Youth Inclusiveness” award. The accolade was presented during the Graduation Dinner and Award Ceremony of Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Computer Science Class 2022, held at Bayero Hall, Sokoto Guest Inn, Sokoto State, on Saturday, 23 December 2023.

Representing the commissioner at the event was Murtala Yusuf, Acting DG of the ICT Directorate Sokoto, accompanied by selected members of the Directorate. Expressing gratitude for the award, he acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Ministry’s dedicated team and highlighted the pivotal role of the Ministry in advancing innovation and digital economic activities in Sokoto State under Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s visionary leadership.

The Transparency and Youth Inclusiveness award recognizes the Commissioner’s commitments to transparent governance and fostering an inclusive environment for Sokoto State’s youth. In his acceptance speech, the Commissioner offered valuable advice to graduating students, emphasizing continuous learning, networking, professional certifications, specialization, work-life balance, and practical experience through internships.

Highlighting the transformative power of technology and its positive impact on the youth, he outlined the Ministry’s achievements, celebrating progress in various activities, collaborations, and strategic discussions with key players in the digital ecosystem.

Moreover, the Commissioner announced that “the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) awarded an Honorary Fellowship to Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto in recognition of his immediate impacts on the Nigerian digital ecosystem”. The establishment of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy by Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto set a precedent for other states, reinforcing the commitment to technological innovation.

Hon. Kwabo was proud of Ministry’s modest achievements, attributing success to dedication, collaborative spirit, and unwavering support from Sokoto State Governor. The Commissioner looks forward to continued progress and innovation in collaboration with the relevant ICT team and stakeholders.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities, including officials of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, the Dean of the Faculty of Physical and Computing Science, the Head of the Computer Science Department, and several faculty lecturers of the Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS). Together, they celebrated the remarkable achievements of the graduates.
