The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FNCS, has commended philanthropists in the state for their generosity and commitment to supporting the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Governor made this statement in his Sallah message to the people of Sokoto following the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal, marking the end of Ramadan.
He emphasized the importance of selflessness, good neighborliness, unity, and compassion, urging the people to uphold these virtues beyond the fasting period.
“I call on the good people of Sokoto State to continue reflecting on the values of Ramadan tolerance, love, sharing, and forgiveness and to integrate them into daily life to foster harmony and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Governor Aliyu highlighted the state government’s continued efforts in assisting the needy, vulnerable groups, and the physically challenged by providing food, cash, and textiles throughout Ramadan to ease their fasting and enable them to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with joy.
He noted that his administration had increased the number of Ramadan feeding centers from 130 to 155 across the state, ensuring that more people benefited from the initiative. This effort, he said, had significantly supported fasting individuals, particularly those in need, reinforcing the government’s dedication to social welfare.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to promoting Islamic affairs, Governor Aliyu assured that mosques and Islamiyya schools would continue to receive government support. He disclosed that several Jumu’at mosques had been remodeled and commissioned, with many others at various stages of completion.
The Governor urged the people of Sokoto to remain steadfast in their prayers and support for his administration as it works toward transforming the state. He also lauded Islamic scholars for their dedication during the Ramadan Tafseer sessions and reassured them that his government would sustain the welfare packages and allowances given to them to encourage their service to the people.
As the Eid celebrations approach, Governor Aliyu extended his best wishes to the people of Sokoto State, calling for peace, unity, and mutual respect to ensure collective progress.
